Press Start! A New Children’s Musical by Denver Casado and Brian Dawson 

The Kalamazoo Civic Theatre’s Penguin Project Production is Press Start!  A New Children’s Musical. Join us as our Penguins embark on a unique adventure as they are transported into the pixelated world of video games. Beloved video game characters, who face running out of lives, organize a musical fundraiser to collect the gold rings necessary to continue playing. Heroes, villains, and sidekicks unite in an unprecedented collaboration, showcasing teamwork like never before. This 8-bit musical promises to captivate audiences, delivering heartwarming moments and unexpected twists. 

Resource Fair: On Saturday, February 8, 2025, join us for our Sensory Friendly performance, visit with local community organizations for a Resource Fair before and after the performance.

Theme Night - Video Game Night: Calling all Video Game lovers to come to Press Start! A New Children’s Musical where each audience member will receive a fidget on Friday, February 14, 2025. You are welcome to come dressed in your favorite video game outfits. Please no masks that cover your face, toy weapons and any large head pieces will need to be removed during the performance.

Have you ever felt misunderstood by everyone around you? How do you overcome untruths in a legal system that seems to be set against proving your innocence? The Tony-award-winning musical, Parade, is set in 1913. Leo Frank is a Jewish Brooklyn native, now residing in rural Georgia. He finds himself on trial for the murder of 13-year-old Mary Phagan, a girl under his employ at a local pencil factory. With a soaring score by Jason Robert Brown and book by Alfred Uhry, Parade delivers a powerful message about religious intolerance, social injustice, and the resilience of love in the face of insurmountable odds.

It’s harvest time in Ireland and the five Mundy sisters are struggling to adapt to their changing world. Dancing at Lughnasa is a memory play narrated by the illegitimate son of one of the sisters as he recalls the women who reared him: his mother and four maiden aunts. 

Join our Senior Class Reader’s Theatre in this Centennial Celebration Series production.

Opening Night Celebration: On Friday, March 28, 2025, join us after the performance for a reception with the 2025 Senior Class Reader’s Theatre & 1994 cast of Dancing At Lughnasa for light horderves.

Written by Peter Bloedel, with all the beloved characters of the classic included, this Seussified version will enchant you as you frolic through a forest filled with fairies, whoosh bush tush beasts, and bumballon swords! Wacky and wild, release your inner child! 

Theme Performance - Seuss Meets Shakespeare: Calling all Dr. Seuss and Shakespeare lovers to come to Seussification of A Midsummer Night Dream where everyone will receive a treat on Saturday, May 3, 2025. The Wedding Singer by Chad Beguelin and Tim Herlihy 

Robbie is a goofy New Jersey singer who failed as a rock star, then in love.  He now fronts the most in-demand wedding band until his own wedding plans go awry and he is left standing at the altar.  Join us as we root for Robbie to find love and to provide once again awesome 1980s music to weddings across New Jersey.

May the 4th Day: May the 4th be with you at Saturday. May 4, 2025, performance of The Wedding Singer where we encourage you to dress up in your best attire from a galaxy far, far, away. Saturday Night in The City: : It’s Saturday Night in the City and we welcome you to come in your best 1980’s club attire where you will receive a treat at intermission on Saturday, May 10, 2025.

A 1980’s Prom Night: Join us for the time of your life as we welcome you to a 1980’s prom night extravaganza following the Saturday, May 17, 2025, performance. The DJ will be playing nothing but the best hits from the 1980’s and our bar will be open for purchases.
