Forever Plaid opens tomorrow Friday, April 5, 2024, in the Carver Studio.  Join Sparky, Frankie, Smudge, and Jinx as they take you back to the sounds of the '60s in this lovely musical comedy.  This show features such wonderful songs as "Moments to Remember", "Chain Gang", "Three Coins in the Fountain", and "Catch A Falling Star."  

 

The shows cast consists of Kevin Taylor as Jinx, Matthew Schuster as Frankie, Isaiah Lee as Smudge, and Cody Watson as Sparky.  Vincent Giannecchini understudies for Smudge.  Katie Martinek is choreographer, Hal Hobson-Morse is music director, Mike Artis is director, David Mahon is assistant director, and Lisa Brannan and Kris Tyrrell make up the stage management team.

 

Forever Plaid is produced as one of our Centennial Productions which highlights a show that has made a significant contribution to the history of the Kalamazoo Civic Theatre.  This show was first produced in 1998 and went on to competition, won the state and regional competitions, and competed at nationals in Memphis, Tennessee. 

 

Three shows have been added to this run. Tickets for Forever Plaid are going fast, with all shows but the April 11th sold out, so get your tickets for April 11 today by calling the Civic's box office at 269-343-1313 or clicking on the button below. Forever Plaid plays April 5-April 21st.

 

Opening in the Parish Theatre on Friday, April 19th is Disney's The Lion King Jr.  This show is sure to be a crowd pleaser. Based on the Disney cartoon, Disney's The Lion King Jr. is sure to get you humming along with familiar tunes like "The Circle of Life", "Hakuna Matata", "He Lives in You", and "Can You Feel The Love Tonight."  If you have not gotten tickets for this show, you will want to do so today. A limited number of tickets have just been added for each performance are sure to go quickly.  Get your tickets today!

 

Disney's The Lion King Jr is directed by Anthony J. Hamilton, co-choreographed by Anthony J. Hamilton and King Ryan Singleton, music directed by Theresa Williams-Johnson, and assistant director is Kim Chandler-Williams.  The cast is made up of  Paris Thomas, Micah Felton, Jahleel Fisher, Kaliyah Jackson, Samiyah Smith, Desmond Mitchell, Nicholas Boyd, Lucy Mansburger, Spencer Duguay, Oakley Martinek, Courtney Gardner, Jack Leskowski, Brady Cole, Mahalia Reign, Makiyah Williams, Annamarie Hickman, Chase Lynn, Dante' Pakey Jr., Genesis Smith, Isaac Delgado, Isaac Mitchell, Jocob Heystek, Jasmine Nash, Lyla Savina, Taylor Bernardi, and Zoe Pankey. There are another 20+ youth behind the scenes helping to make this production a success.

 

Disney's The Lion King Jr plays April 19 - April 28. Saturdays 2:00-3:30; May 4-18

This three-week class, led by Sara Sherman, offers a platform for aspiring performers to explore the fusion of hip hop and Broadway, allowing them to hone their skills and creativity in a supportive environment. By focusing on the nuances of hip hop styles that resonate on the Broadway stage, participants will enhance their understanding of how to convey narratives through dance.

High School and College Seniors, the Kalamazoo Civic would like to help celebrate you as you come to the end of your school careers.  If you wish to be highlighted in A Minute with Mike, please send in the following information:  

  • Name and what school you attended
  • Productions you were involved with at the Kalamazoo Civic Theatre
  • Parents Names (if you wish included)
  • Scholarships or other awards you have received
  • School or other plans after graduation
  • Any other information about your future 
  • A Senior picture or recent headshot

The Civic needs this information by May 15, 2024.

Roy J. Secor left the Civic family on March 18, 2024.  Roy came to Kalamazoo in 1965 to attend WMU later earning his master's degree from the university.  Roy dedicated 37 years to teaching Spanish and Social Sutdies at Otsego High School as well as being a guidance counselor.  Roy spent many nights at the Kalamazoo Civic Theatre as a patron enjoying many of the live performances.  Roy you will be missed in our audiences.  To see the full obituary of Roy J. Mark your calendars!!! Saturday, June 1st at 2:00pm will be this year's Kalamazoo Civic Theatre volunteer celebration.  All volunteers are welcome to attend.  Together, we will look back on the Civic's 95th season and forward to the 96th.  Join us and help the Kalamazoo Civic Theatre celebrate you, our fabulous volunteers!
