Hello Valued Volunteers and Patrons,

View the Jimmy Awards at the Kalamazoo Civic Theatre and cheer on volunteer Braeden Davis on June 24th. Plenty of usher opportunities coming up. See the article below for more information on this and so much more.

If you have any questions about any of the information in the following articles or anything volunteer-related at the Civic, please feel free to contact your Director of Volunteers, Mike Artis, at martis@kazoocivic.com or call 269-548-3031.

We are looking for a few volunteer ushers on Friday, June 28th from about 3:00pm to 5:00pm for a Camp presentation in the Civic Auditorium.  If you would like to assist with this, please click on the button below to sign up.

There will be a Jimmy Awards viewing party at the Civic Auditorium on Monday, June 24th at 7:30pm.  The Jimmy Awards will be shown on our large digital screen. What are the Jimmy Awards?  A nation-wide High School Theatre Award, the Jimmy Awards was established in 2009 to elevate the importance of theatre arts education in schools and reward excellence in student performance.

This year, Civic volunteer and Loy Norrix graduate, Braeden Davis, is competing for the top honor of best performance of an actor.  Braeden will spend 11 days in New York learning from theatre professionals and preparing to perform live on June 24th.  The Kalamazoo Civic Theatre will open the theatre doors at 7pm for anyone who would like to come down and cheer on Braeden by watching the live feed.  If you are unable to watch with us, The Jimmy Awards start at 7:30pm and will be streaming live on Facebook and YouTube.  Popcorn and water are available at concessions and can be purchased with any donation amount.  All donations will go toward the Civic Youth Theatre program.

Any questions? Please feel free to email Mike Artis, Director of Volunteers, at martis@kazoocivic.com. We hope to see many of our volunteers on June 24th to cheer on Braeden as he competes.

We are looking for 2-3 more ushers for June 24th for the viewing of the Jimmy Awards at the Kalamazoo Civic Auditorium at 329 S. Park St.  We would need ushers to arrive about 6:00pm to help assist with concessions and basic patrons needs. Those ushering can stay and watch the Jimmy Awards happen on the big screen at the Civic.  To sign up to usher, please click on the button below.

Congratulations to Civic volunteer, Education for the Arts, and Loy Norrix High School graduate, Braeden Davis, on his Sutton Foster Award win. Braeden competed at the Wharton Center Auditorium against 120 other students last weekend and took home the top honor in the male division.  He receives an 11 day all-expense paid trip to New York City to compete in the National High School Musical Theatre Awards also known as the Jimmy Awards.

In the world of acting, the power of authenticity cannot be overstated. It's not just about reciting lines from a script; it's about bringing the raw, unfiltered essence of who you are to your performance. This class will focus on helping you bring your authentic self to your monologue, crafting a performance that connects, moves, and inspires.

Leading this class, we are thrilled to introduce CharlesCurtis, former Civic Volunteer.  He brings a wealth of experience as a professional performer on stage, in television commercials, and in web-series film work. He is dedicated to helping students embrace their uniqueness and bring it to each performance.

Class Dates:  Monday - Thursday, June 24-27 6:00-8:00

This class is reserved for Adults and Teens.

For our 96th Season, we are thrilled to announce a new volunteer opportunity as we introduce our Concessions volunteer.

What does a Concessions volunteer do?

  • Assist the concessions/bar staff with taking orders, processing payments, and assisting with any additional prep work before and during the performance.
  • As a concessions/bar volunteer, you will receive one comp ticket to a future performance.

Volunteers for concessions will now need to be 18 years of age or older to assist with concessions.  This volunteer position will be available at Civic Auditorium productions with the exception of youth productions. Questions? Feel free to reach out to Mike Artis and he will try and get you more information.
