Hello Valued Volunteers and Patrons,

 

Happy Independence Day!

 

The second workshop of the season is almost here.  Those looking to be a part of the Senior Class Readers Theatre production of Let It Be- A Musical Celebration of the Beatles will want to sign up soon as space for this workshop is limited.  We are looking for actors of the BIPOC community to help fill this cast.   Many other opportunities are available at the Civic.  Make sure to read on to learn more.

Singers, Dancers, and Beatles enthusiasts ages 50+, the signups for the Kalamazoo Civic Senior Reader's Theatre musical Let It Be- A Musical Celebration of the Beatles workshop and auditions are available now.  For those wishing to attend the audition workshop on Saturday, July 20, 2024, this is a chance to meet and learn from the production team of Director Mike Scorzo and Musical Director Lori Hatfield.  They will take you through everything you need to prepare for your audition.  This show is looking for a diverse cast of up to 30 performers and does include parts specifically written for black actors and dancers.  

 

Auditions are set for Sunday, August 4 at 6:30pm and Sunday, August 5 at 6:30pm. Actors are asked to sign up for a 30-minute audition slot.   Actors will be asked to sing and do some sort of movement. To sign up for either of these opportunities, please click on the buttons below. 

 

Want to be a part of the Penguin Project this season? Do you miss being with your friends from the Penguin Project.  Well, there is a chance to meet up with your friends and bring a friend that might be interested in joining this year's production of Press Start! A New Children's Musical.  Join us July 18, 2024 from 6-7pm in the Carver Center. 

The age restrictions for Penguin Project have been changed.  Artists need to be over the age of 9 years to participate, but there is no upper age limit of those that can participate. We are looking for mentors ages 9-18 for this season's production, as well as a few guides (18+) to work with our older artists. We are in need of volunteers to help with cleaning up the makeup and hair supplies in the Civic Auditorium on July 20, 2024, at 11:00am. Volunteer Katie Martinek will lead a small team to get the makeup room ready for the upcoming season.  If you would like to assist with this clean up, please click on the button below.

 

We are looking for a few volunteer ushers for Friday, July 19, 2024 from about 3:00pm to 5:30pm for a Camp presentation in the Civic Auditorium.  If you would like to assist with this, please click on the button below to sign up.

 

Ushers, there will be an orientation for all ushers on Friday, August 23, 2024 at 12pm or on Monday, August 26, 2024 at 6pm in the Civic Auditorium. Those wishing to usher this season should plan to attend one of these orientations.   This orientation will help answer questions that you might have, talk about duties and responsibilities, customer service, the new concession position, and expectations.  Please RSVP to the button below to let us know which day you plan to attend.  

 

This active, 2-week camp, starts July 8! 

  • Expert Guidance: Learn from experienced director Lou Price and certified fight choreographer, Steven Schwall
  • Active Participation: Engage in dynamic scenes and thrilling stage combat.
  • Fun and Friends: Make new friends and enjoy a fun, collaborative environment.
  • Together:  We'll explore scenes from classic scripts that include exciting fighting elements.
  • Final Performance: Showcase your new skills in a performance on the final Friday of camp.

Ushers are able to sign up for the first two musicals of the season.  We are looking for ushers for Six: The Musical - Teen Edition and Let It Be - A Musical Celebration of the Beatles.  Ushers need to arrive 1hour and 15 minutes early for performances.  The times listed on the signups are the times that you need to arrive at the theatre. Those wishing to work concessions in the Civic Auditorium this season need to be 18 years or older.  This is because concessions volunteers will be dealing with alcohol purchases in this theatre.

There will be a workshop for The Kalamazoo Civic Theatre's production of Disney's Finding Nemo Jr. on August 3, 2024.  Those looking to audition for this show may want to consider taking the audition workshop.  This workshop offers you a chance to hear what the directing team is thinking for the show, gives you a chance to receive audition materials, and work with the directing team on what to prepare for the audition.  This is a CYT production, so it is open to all between the ages of 9 and a senior in high school.  Space is limited so if you want to sign up for this workshop, click on the button below. Audition signup is also available for Disney's Finding Nemo Jr.  Auditions are Sunday, August 18 and Monday, August 19 at 6:00pm.   Those auditioning will be asked to do a dance combination, sing, and possibly read from the script.  Those wishing to audition for this should click on the button below and select the date that they would like to audition.  If you have any questions about auditions, please contact your Director of Volunteers, Mike Artis at martis@kazoocivic.com or call 269-569-9037.

 

Want to volunteer for the Kalamazoo Civic Theatre this season?  Well, it is that time of year again.  Volunteers need to fill out the volunteer form and background check (for 18 years and older) for the 2024-2025 season.  Please follow the links below to prefill out your paperwork before volunteering at the Civic.  

 

We are presently looking for a few singers that would like to perform at the Kalamazoo County Youth Fair on Saturday, August 10th for a late morning performance.  Those wanting to perform should click on the button below.  We are looking for a diverse cast of singers of all ages.
